L’Antica Pesa is a beautiful old restaurant in the Trastevere district known for its history as well as its food. Dating back to the 17th century, the restaurant was originally a “refreshment stand” that served bread and wine to peasants who came and delivered grain to the Vatican’s customs office, located then on the same street. In the 19th century, it became an inn known for its excellent bocce court (bowling green). Today, that bowling green is a lovely garden in which on warm summer nights patrons may eat dishes such as artichokes with hazelnuts or calamari sautéed in garlic cream. The restaurant is very well known among the glitterati, and you might even catch a glimpse of a Hollywood star or two dining there.
